Liverpool are said to be keen to pursue Bayern Munich ace Ryan Gravenberch this summer, with a transfer reportedly “on the horizon.” But the move could still collapse as Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel holds the power when it comes to the player’s departure.

Liverpool endured an underwhelming campaign throughout the 2022/23 season and missed out on securing a Champions League spot after finishing fifth in the Premier League table. With key midfielders Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson all struggling for form, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for new talent in the centre of the pitch. And Gravenberch could tick the boxes.

The 21-year-old excelled after coming through the Ajax academy and helped the side win three Eredivisie titles and two Dutch cups during his 103 appearances for the club. He moved to Munich last summer and signed a five-year deal with the German team after they shelled out £16million to secure his signature. But the ace has become a peripheral figure at the Allianz Arena.

Gravenberch was a bit-part player under former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann and has also failed to nail down a regular starting place since Tuchel took the helm at the end of March. 

According to SPORT1, a move to Anfield is now on the horizon for the ace but it will depend on what Tuchel has planned for him next season. The ex-Chelsea manager must outline a clear plan for Gravenberch and offer him perspective in order to keep him at the club. And if that doesn’t happen, a move away from Bayern appears to be inevitable.

Gravenberch started just three Bundesliga games throughout 2022/23 as his side won their 11th consecutive league title. And he failed to make it onto the pitch for either leg of the Champions League quarter-finals as Bayern exited the competition at the hands of Manchester City. But Liverpool may still decide he possesses all the credentials to succeed in the Premier League.
