My husband’s support for NYSC driven by belief in one Nigeria — Aisha Buhari

The First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, has praised her husband’s support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), saying it is driven by his belief in one Nigeria.

Mrs. Buhari made the statement at the flag-off of special medical outreaches under the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) organized in commemoration of the Scheme’s 50th anniversary on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to her, President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to the NYSC is a reflection of his belief in the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

She commended the scheme for its efforts in promoting national unity and urged Nigerians to support the NYSC in achieving its objectives.

“Mr. President is particularly passionate about the NYSC. His support for this scheme is driven by his belief in one Nigeria and sincere appreciation of the contribution of these young men and women to this effect.

“The first family always treat corps members in Daura, Katsina state to presidential reception during festive periods like Sallah, Ramadan, and Christmas,” Aisha Buhari said.

In his address at the event, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, disclosed that over three million Nigerians have benefited from the HIRD initiative.

He stated that the medical outreaches were aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to rural communities, particularly those in hard-to-reach areas.

Brigadier General Ahmed also commended the First Lady for her support to the scheme, stating that her presence at the event was a testament to her commitment to the well-being of Nigerians.

“I would like to assure Nigerians that the provision of quality health services will remain one of our priorities.

“Accordingly, we shall continue to work with various stakeholders to make the HIRD programme more impactful,” he added.

Also speaking, the Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Ambassador Fatima Abubakar, stated that the Scheme had brought smiles to the faces of many Nigerians.

She urged the scheme to sustain the initiative and called on other organizations to emulate the NYSC’s commitment to the well-being of Nigerians.
