Nick Cannon's Son Dies From Brain Tumor

After a struggle with brain cancer, Nick confirmed the death of his and Alyssa Scott's 5-month-old newborn boy Zen. At the outset of The Nick Cannon Show, he exclaimed, "I got so much to talk about." "I haven't even told anyone about it. Even the crew isn't on board. It's just that there's a lot going on in the world. I had a long, difficult weekend."

Nick, 41, then cried as he presented the audience his "Pic of the Day," a snapshot of Zen. "Zen was born in June, June 23," he said, "before the performance started, in the summertime." "It was a fantastic day, and as you know, I have a lot of kids. Zen is my eldest child. It was a thrilling experience."

Zen had a "sinus thing...like a cough" and "strange breathing," Nick recalled as he pondered on his first few months with his youngest son. Nick was similarly struck by Zen's size, but added that he didn't think much of it because his other six children all have "beautiful round heads."

"However, I really wanted to take him to the doctor to get his breathing and sinuses looked out," he explained to the audience. "As a result, we assumed it would be a routine procedure. We went in merely to check his sinuses, and they claimed they were fine, but by the time we discovered out he had another issue, it was too late. And it was termed fluid that was building up in his head, if I'm not mistaken, and it was the cause...his head was starting to get huge. They called it a malignant tumor in his head when we found out it was more. We had to get surgery right away. Surgery on the brain."

The family "moved on" after that, and Zen was "playing with all his brothers and sisters."

Nick then acknowledged Zen's mother, Alyssa, while speaking to the audience. "Alyssa was the most powerful lady I'd ever seen. I've never gotten into a fight, and I've never been upset "he stated "She was emotional when she needed to be, but she was and continues to be the best mother anyone could ask for. So I'd like to express my gratitude to my entire family, but especially to Alyssa."

Around Thanksgiving, Nick explained, things took a "interesting turn." He stated, "The process sped rapidly." "It was cancer in the brain, if anyone knows what cancer is like. And the tumor started to develop at a much higher rate."

Nick went on to say that he spent the "most quality time" he could with Zen this past weekend. They traveled to the beach on Sunday, Dec. 5, where Nick held his son "for the final time."

He stated, "This is a great show devoted to my son." "You never know what is going on in someone's life. Hug your loved ones. Someone should be kissed. Inform them that you adore them."

Moroccan and Monroe Cannon, Nick's and Mariah Carey's 10-year-old twins, are Nick's and Mariah's children. With Brittany Bell, he has Golden "Sagon" Cannon, 4, and Powerful Queen Cannon, 12 months, and Abby De La Rosa has 5-month-old twins Zion Mixolydian Cannon and Zillion Heir Cannon.

Doctors implanted a shunt in Zen's brain, hoping for the best, as Nick said.
