Justice Rahman Oshodi of a Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a father, Suleiman Usman to life imprisonment over defilement of his 8 years old daughter.
The judge sentenced the father to life imprisonment after he was found guilty as charged by the Lagos State government.
The state government had arraigned Usman on two counts charge bordering on defilement of his two daughters of 8 years and 5 years at their residence in 2 Bale Street, Onisewo area of Apapa area of Lagos State.
His offences contravene the provisions of section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
He had pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge when he was arraigned.
Usman was first arraigned before Justice Sybil Nwaka on October 2019 before the judge was elevated to the Court of Appeal and the case file was reassigned to Justice Oshodi’s court where he was re-arraigned on two counts of charge.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses among which were the first survivor, the 8 years old girl, the Investigative Police Officer (IPO), the defendant’s wife (the mother of the survivors), and the medical doctor from Mirabel Center.
After the close of the prosecution case, the defendant opens his defence. He called three witnesses including the defendant.
However, Justice Oshodi exonerated the convict of the second charge.
The court held that the prosecution failed to prove the second charge against the defendant as the second survivor did not testify to the 2nd charge related to her defilement.
On count one, the court held that the testimony of the first survivor corroborate the medical doctor. Justice Oshodi said that he has considered the ingredients of the offences, the confessional statement, circumstantial evidence, and the eyewitness account in sentencing the father to life imprisonment.
According to him, “Our society is prone to sexual abuse, sexual crime against children are so prevalent. Our laws in Lagos have zero tolerance for your gang of paedophiles that is not acceptable. In your case, the survivor is your daughter’s child. You put your penis in her virginal and her anus, the survivor was 8 years at the time because she has excruciating pain.
Police operatives in Ondo State have launched a manhunt for a commercial motorcyclist for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
The suspect, whose identity was yet to be ascertained, was said to have committed the crime in Igbokoda community, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
According to sources, the suspect enticed the little girl who was selling puff-puff before luring her into an abandoned building, where he forcibly defiled the primary five students.
One of the sources claimed that the suspect, a native of Kebbi State, went into hiding before leaving the state, adding that detectives had tracked him to Kebbi State.
The victim’s mother, who spoke about the development and went by the name Joy, said that the incident took place on May 19, 2023.
“At around a few minutes before 7 p.m., she came back home, but immediately I saw her. I knew something was wrong because she looked tired and exhausted. While she was trying to explain to me what happened to her when she fainted but was revived at the hospital,
Olufumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state police spokeswoman, confirmed the occurrence and said the command has begun tracking the suspect.
Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, have arrested a popular musician on Tiktok, one Crown Uzama (aka ShalliPopi) and his manager, Ajayi Abdul Hafeez(aka 21 Badda) for alleged internet-related fraud.
They were arrested alongside 29 other suspects, including four females: Glory Chinyere Kelvin Ogunwa l, Tina Ochonogor, Favour Baba Dawa and Joseph Judith Iya.
The others are Adewale Adedokun, Yakubu Emmanuel Ojochememi, AbdulAzeez Temidayo Suleiman, Umoru Osioke AbdulAzeez l, Emmanuel Isaac Iwebo, Shuaibu Umaru Smart, Joel Kator, Gowon Titus, Emmanuel Daniel, Enough Etim Ekpo, Atano Timi Eben, Ijuo John Ochi, Paul Emmanuel Kaye, Uyit Victor and David Elijah Yachai
Others include, Leche Precious Sokomba, Onoja Samuel Uroko, Cornelius Oyathekhua Agbodesi, Edigim Nosa Success, Azubuike Melchizedek Oniya, Usman Shereef, Victory Dennis Chiemela, Lambert Fortunetus Chikwado, Asoore King Oloruntoba and Malik Adanu Jibril
They were arrested following actionable intelligence about a proposed show by suspected Internet fraudsters at Barnawa, Kaduna. The suspects were arrested in sting operations at Disney Park Lounge, Epitome and Tomoso Hotels, all in the Barnawa axis of Kaduna.
Items recovered include mobile phones, laptop computers and two vehicles.
The suspects will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of the investigation.
A video of Davido performing at the inauguration of Governor Alex Otti of Abia had surfaced online on Monday.
Trailing his performance, Nigerians took to social media raising questions about the amount of money that must have been spent on bringing the award-winning music legend to perform at the event.

Of the truth, according to Daniel 2: 21, it is God who controls the course of world events; He removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
On this note, I heartily congratulate Your Excellency for emerging victorious in the most keenly contested presidential election since the return to democracy in Nigeria. Your emergence is a divine mandate ordained by God as revealed to me by God several times and which is all over the public domain.
As you take charge of steering the destiny of the nation in these challenging times in various spheres of the lives of Nigerians, may God Almighty endow you with all the necessary tools, good health, and wisdom to enable you to lead the nation into greatness in all ramifications.
His Excellency sir, I write this open letter to you not only as a prophet of God but as an authority who has a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in International Law and Diplomacy to be objectively ready to tackle Nigeria’s greatest challenge of insecurity, widespread corruption, and a general sense of dissatisfaction among citizens and as well, meet the expectation of the people.
I call on you to tackle the problem by unifying the country and solving major socio-economic, religious, and ethnic problems confronting the country as a father of the nation.
I want to remind you that Nigeria is a heterogeneous country battling crises of insecurity, kidnapping, and extreme poverty.
Since no one will expect you to tackle all the crises at once, Nigerians will be expecting you to dedicate your administration to genuine renewal work, at least to let Nigerians see and feel the difference, however little.
As a unifier, don’t step out as a vindictive leader. Rather, bring all warring parties on board to objectively discuss the way forward to a better Nigeria.
It is an open secret that Nigerians are yearning for good governance as past administrations have left an open sore in the hearts of the citizens with bad governance and broken electoral promises. His Excellency sir, I am very sure you are aware of the loopholes of these past administrations which I believe should be your target.
Addressing loopholes is not tantamount to fighting the past; rather, it means you should learn from the past administration, which, of course, you’re part of, to address the crises now for a better Nigeria.
It is not too much to say that you have a lot to do to convince huge numbers of the youth who have shown dissatisfaction with the performance of your party in the past eight years.
Also, I want to plead on behalf of Nigerians and that is, you should do anything in your capacity to end the insecurity that is ravaging our country. The hydra-headed menace has undermined the propensity of our beloved country for progress.
No country develops in chaos. That is why you should, as the first step to renewing the hope of a country long trapped in hopelessness, pay attention to its security situation and not play politics with the appointment of service chiefs.
Aside from that, it is obvious that Nigerians voted on their religious and ethnic affiliations rather than on the policies and qualifications of the candidates.
His Excellency, I salute your capacity to put up with criticism from religious leaders. However, I urge you to exercise patience, wisdom, and tolerance with religious leaders be they pastors or Imams, and treat them with respect.
Any leader that witch-hunts religious leaders are digging a pit for his downfall. Personally, when I see the persecution of religious leaders, I speak up. I will not keep quiet. As a unifier, I beseech your administration to handle their issues with wisdom and preserve national harmony.
Also, as a unifier, I will appeal and suggest that His Excellency should forgive and release Nnamdi Kanu.
Furthermore, as a barrier breaker and a line crosser, I beseech you to implement your objective which is to foster a new society based on shared prosperity, tolerance, compassion, and the unwavering commitment to treating each citizen with equal respect and due regard
I want to remind you of your 10-point agenda which formed your manifesto during the campaign:
1. Build a Nigeria, especially for our youth, where sufficient jobs with decent wages create a better life.
2. Manufacture, create, and invent more of the goods and services we require. Nigeria shall be known as a nation of creators, not just of consumers.
3. Export more and import less, strengthening both the naira and our way of life.
4. Continue assisting our ever-toiling farmers, through enlightened agricultural policy that promotes productivity and assures decent incomes, so that farmers can support their families and feed the nation.
5. Modernise and expand public infrastructure so that the rest of the economy can grow at an optimal rate.
6. Embolden and support our young people and women by harnessing emerging sectors such as the digital economy, entertainment and culture, tourism, and others to build the Nigeria of tomorrow, today.
7. Train and give economic opportunity to the poorest and most vulnerable among us. We seek a Nigeria where no parent is compelled to send a child to bed hungry, worried whether tomorrow shall bring food.
8. Generate, transmit, and distribute sufficient, affordable electricity to give our people the requisite power to enlighten their lives, homes, and dreams.
9. Make basic healthcare, education, and housing accessible and affordable for all.

Nollywood actress, Margaret Olayinka aka Iya Gbonkan has appealed for a car gift from her fans.
The renowned actress, who is known for her creepy roles lamented that she does not own a car despite spending decades in the movie industry.
In a video now in circulation, she claimed to have been using public transport to move around.
Iya Gbonkan pleaded with her followers to celebrate her while she is still alive and not when she is dead.
“I have been acting for decades yet I don’t have a car. I jump on buses every day. If I die now, you will kill a cow. Celebrate me now that I am alive. I need a car from my fans,” she said.

DAILY POST recalls that former president Muhammadu Buhari, through the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs on Sunday, listed comedian AY, singer Davido, actor Kunle Afolayan, Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and other celebrities among 337 Nigerians to be conferred with national honours on June 1st 2023.
Reacting to the announcement on Monday, AY, in a tweet, addressed critics who queried him for not rejecting the honorary award by the Federal Government. Stating that a national honour is the highest recognition anyone could get.
Explaining why he will not reject the award, AY said, “Those of you shaming or asking me to reject ‘A National Honour’ are clearly missing a vital point. Our country is bigger and more important than any president or political party awarding it. National honour is the highest recognition anyone can get for his or her contributions to nation-building.
”So my allegiance is to a country where I have contributed my own quota, and I am more than happy to be rewarded by the same nation.”

The head of the Awaiting the Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Pastor Adewale Giwa has lashed out at his colleagues.
According to him, Pastors who prophesied the arrest of President Bola Tinubu didn't hear from God.
Following the inauguration of Tinubu on Monday, May 29, Giwa pointed out that some of his colleagues only allowed emotions to control them.
Tinubu took the mantle of leadership in Nigeria on Monday, and Giwa expressed disappointment over the conduct of his colleagues in the last presidential election.
Giwa, in a statement released and handed over to journalists in Akure on Monday, said God doesn’t care about politics but cares about the people who obey Him.
Prior to Tinubu’s inauguration ceremony, some religious leaders within the Christian community had predicted that the former Lagos State Governor would not be sworn in.
However, Giwa said his colleagues only surrendered themselves to the flesh.
He said: “They didn’t hear from God because He doesn’t care about politics. We only surrendered ourselves to the flesh instead of the Holy Spirit.
“We allowed our emotions to control us instead of keeping our hope in Jesus alive. We often display fear, anger, and worry.
“Rather than love, we fight. Rather than strive for unity, we throw stones at the other side. Instead of resting in the peace God gives us, we worry about what we cannot control. We have placed our hope in politics, and our actions show it.
“That’s not the way it should be. I think there are a few things we need to remind ourselves of about the election and politics.
“When we put our hope in something other than Christ, we will eventually be let down. Our role in society is to advise, criticise if necessary, and speak the truth to power."
Speaking on what to expect from the new president, the cleric said Tinubu would always be remembered for good if he deemed it necessary to transform Nigeria beyond the expectations of the people.
“He doesn’t need to be reminded of what to do; he lives in Nigeria and knows what to do to make the citizens happy. He needs to make electricity stable for foreign investors and Nigerians, tackle security challenges and boost the nation’s economy,” Giwa stated.
Ozioma Okposo, the wife of the late Nigerian gospel singer, Sammie Okposo, has taken to social media to celebrate his birthday.
Recall that the singer, who died on November 25, 2022, was buried on December 16, 2022, at a private cemetery, Ikoyi after a Church service.
Naija News reports that Ozy who is yet to get over her husband’s demise took to her Instagram page to share cute photos of the musician.
The widow expressed how much she misses her husband saying she is aware of how Sammie loves to celebrate his birthday.

A 65-year-old man, Danladi Wari, arrested for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, has blamed the act on the minor.
Confessing his act to the police, the man said the girl got him into having carnal knowledge of her by touching him seductively.
The Adamawa State Police Command, which said on Sunday that police operatives arrested the man from his residence in Gangaraso in Jada Local Government Area on the 23rd May, 2023, added that the man had insisted that the little girl followed him into his room and seduced him into sleeping with her.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the man had claimed that the girl demanded N200 from him which he did not give her, but sewed for free some clothes she had brought to him.
Nguroje said the suspect was apprehended following a complaint to the police by the girl’s family members.
He assured that the man would be prosecuted according to the dictates of the law.
Abuja-based public interest lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has congratulated senior counsel and legal luminary, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, on the conferment of the Officer of the Order of the Niger award on him by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
In a statement on Sunday, Olajengbesi described the award as deserving of Ajulo who has for decades laboured for nation-building in the areas of Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Taxation, Corporate and Commercial Law as well as in the promotion of equal opportunity in Nigeria.
Olajengbesi said the legal profession is proud of Ajulo whose noble and unquantifiable contributions to governance and democracy traverse various strata of the social classes in Nigeria.
According to him, Ajulo has distinguished himself as a public analyst whose ingenious examination and solutions to social and political challenges have in no small way contributed to nation-building.
“The conferment of the prestigious award on Dr Olukayode Ajulo is a testament that hard work pays and a recognition of his invaluable works in the public space to nation-building. Dr Ajulo is a shining light from the legal profession and this award is another feather to his cap,” Olajengbesi stated.
Ajulo, a fellow of the prestigious Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom, having obtained a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitrations from Oxford University, is a member of several notable organisations, including; Avant Garde International, International Association of Human Rights Lawyers, Nigerian Red Cross, the Nigerian Institute of Management, the Nigerian Bar Association and International Bar Association.
He is a founder of Egalitarian Mission Africa, an NGO based in Nigeria for the promotion of the rule of law, equity and fairness.
