The spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council for the 2023 general election, Daniel Bwala has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of nepotism.

Bwala on Monday claimed that President Tinubu’s recent appointments are concentrated in the South West and Lagos State in particular.

The PDP chieftain stated this while speaking on Channels TV Politics Today.

According to Bwala, Tinubu has beaten former president, Muhammadu Buhari, in nepotism.

Buhari while in power was accused of making most of his appointments from the northern part of the country.

In the case of President Tinubu, Bwala said he is only selecting from the southern part of the country

He accused the president of ignoring the South-South and South-East in his appointments so far.

Bwala said: “APC as a political party is a party that commenced the idea of nepotism. Remember when President Buhari was in power, people complained about nepotism…but he’s like iPhone 13 Promax.

“By the time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over, his own even exceeded iPhone 14 and went straight to iPhone 15 Promax in the sense that his appointments have generated a conversation around the country that the government is being concentrated in one part of the country over and above others.

“In the case of Buhari, you could argue that he favoured the North…but you could see that it is populated by Northeast, Northwest, and North Central. There was a democratic distribution of appointments there but when it comes to this present government, if you look at it, the Southeast and the South-South are left behind.

“The dominance of the appointments is in the Southwest. And even when you go further in the Southwest, there are quite a number of people in the Southwest who will tell you that the appointments were concentrated in Lagos.”

He noted that the constitution stated that the country should not be run in a way that would reflect the dominance of one part over the other, stressing that Tinubu is breaking the law.

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, yesterday, said any attempt to deny the South-East the presidency in 2023 is a gang-up against the region dominated by Igbo.

Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, in a chat with Sunday Vanguard, said those opposed to Igbo President are discriminatory against the region.

The statement was interpreted in many politically informed circles to mean that the group may not back a Yoruba aspirant for the nation’s highest office in 2023. 

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and All Progressives Congress  (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are believed to be main contenders in the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari from the South-West while Senator Pius Anyim and Governor Dave Umahi among others from the South-East and also eyeing Aso Rock Villa..

Whereas Tinubu has publicly declared his ambition, Osinbajo is said to be considering running against his mentor who was single handedly responsible for his nomination to run as deputy to Buhari first in 2015 and later in 2019.

Adebanjo said: “If there is anything like power shift in Nigeria, it should go to the South-East. There is doubt about that, any other thing is just gang-up.

“There should not be any argument about that because the South-West has gotten it, the North has gotten, South-South has gotten it. You want the Igbo to remain in Nigeria but you want to discriminate against them. 

“There should be no argument about where power should shift to, it should go to the South-East. Any other thing is gang-up.”

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) says its members who endorsed Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the presidency, spoke for themselves.

During a meeting on Sunday, Ya’u Haruna, a former chairman of the Jigawa chapter of MACBAN, had said the welfare of members of the association will improve with Tinubu as president in 2023.

Haruna had said Tinubu, when he was governor of Lagos, intervened and resolved an issue that involved the association when it had a crisis in Benue.

“Tinubu came all the way, got us on a roundtable and reconciled us. So, someone who could do this at that time, we believe, can do more when he is at the helm of affairs,” he had said.

Speaking on the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, Baba Ngelzarma, MACBAN national secretary, said the association has not endorsed any presidential aspirant.

According to NAN, Ngelzarma added that the association doesn’t wish to be dragged into such political matters at this time.

“The attention of the MACBAN National Headquarters has been drawn to stories in the media claiming that we have endorsed the presidential aspiration of Sen. Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement reads.

“We want to make it clear that the association has not endorsed any candidate.

“Those who endorsed Tinubu are doing so as individuals, as MACBAN should not in any way be dragged into the politics of endorsement at this stage.”

On January 10, Tinubu said he had informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to run for president.

Tinubu, who spoke after a closed-door meeting with Buhari, had added that he was still consulting stakeholders on the matter.
